Salvage Maine is a small workshop nestled on a corner of an urban farm, a stone's throw from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The idea for Salvage Maine came about during the restoration of a 120 year old carraige house, and it now specializes in repurposing found objects into unique folk art. Sourcing materials from beaches, dumpsters, local parks, and even second hand shops, Salvage Maine celebrates the already worn facade of every peice to create works that appear to have been made generations ago. All the items made use as much salvage as can be found, including fastening hardware such as pre-used nails and screws .
Many of the tools used at Salvage Maine are themselves salvaged, some dating back over 150 years! Most of the tools were considered useless and would just be used for decoration or even trashed. But here, every single tool gets used , even if only once a year (how many times does one need to use a shoulder brace drill?).
